Learning through practice

One of the central outcomes of the WellHome project is the development of a training programme that combines interior design principles with a person-centred approach to wellbeing. The course is designed for professionals working in vocational education and social services, as well as for learners who wish to explore how living environments can influence quality of life.

The training programme is structured around a clear and practical learning logic. Rather than focusing only on theoretical concepts, the course encourages participants to observe, analyse, and actively transform spaces.

The programme begins with an introduction to the relationship between wellbeing and living environments. Participants explore how elements such as light, colour, layout, materials, and personalisation can influence mood, comfort, and everyday experiences.

In the following modules, learners are introduced to person-centred design methods. They learn how to analyse the needs of users and how to involve them in the process of improving their living spaces. This approach is particularly relevant when working with vulnerable groups, where participation and empowerment are essential.

The course then moves towards more practical activities. Participants are guided through a process that includes: observing and analysing a space, identifying areas for improvement, proposing design interventions, and implementing changes where possible.

Throughout the programme, learners are encouraged to reflect on the social and environmental impact of design choices, considering how small changes can contribute to more inclusive and sustainable living environments.

Ultimately, the aim of the course is not only to teach design techniques but also to foster a new way of thinking about spaces: as environments that can support wellbeing, autonomy, and social inclusion.
