MODULE 5 – LIVING MOODBOARD

Lesson 1 – Introduction

This module equips facilitators with the knowledge and tools to guide learners through the LIVING MOODBOARD activity, supporting them in the creative and practical translation of their identified housing style. The goal is to help learners express emotions, values, and spatial needs through a personalized visual composition (moodboard) that connects inner experience with conscious design choices. 
By the end of the module, facilitators will be able to: 

  • Present the LIVING MOODBOARD tool and its purpose in a clear and engaging way; 
  • Support learners in in selecting colours, textures, materials, and furnishings consistent with the chosen living style. 
  • Encourage learners to create a moodboard that visually communicates personal identity and project intentions; 
  • Promote an empathetic, reflective, and user-centered design approach grounded in emotional awareness and housing trends. 

LIVING MOODBOARD represents the second step in the design process, translating the project requirements that emerged during the User Journey and Trend Research phases. Building on this foundation, it enables learners to put what they have learned into practice by creating a concrete moodboard that gives form to the emotions, needs, and desires that emerged. 

The activity is carried out through the guided composition of a physical moodboard: each learner selects materials, colours, textures,and furnishings by choosing one of the living styles identified in the Trend Research tool, drawing on a curated collection of elements aligned with the housing trends explored. 

The tool can be used individually or in small groups. It facilitates visual dialogue and supports project personalisation. 

t is particularly valuable for translating one’s living identity into a visual language that is understandable and shareable, laying the foundation for a sensitive, coherent, and truly person-centred design process.


The purpose of this module is to foster a reflective and expressive environment where learners can visually translate the emotions, needs, and values previously explored into a coherent design vision. Through the creation of a thematic moodboard, learners begin to shape their identity-based design language, connecting personal insight with practical, aesthetic, and material choices.

This phase helps establish a bridge between emotional reflection and spatial design, allowing learners to experiment with colour, texture, and symbolism in a guided yet creative way.

  • Collect a variety of magazines, catalogues, and newspapers related to home, well-being, and interior design to be cut and pasted on the moodboard.

In addition, within the framework of the project, a curated Pinterest board have been created (click here to access it: Moodboard inspiration), allowing learners to explore the images digitally and select any they wish to print for their moodboards. On Pinterest you can also find examples of moodboards to show to the learners for a better understanding of the activity.

Additional image resources can be found on platforms such as Unsplash, Pexels, or Pixabay. These platforms offer high-quality, free-to-use images suitable for educational purposes. Suggested keywords for searching include: home interior, cozy living, minimal decor, sustainable materials, texture, colour palette, furniture style, wellbeing, shared living, temporary living, personal space.

Prepare scissors, glue sticks, double-sided tape, pencils, markers, coloured pencils, watercolours, adhesive labels or post-it notes.

(Optional) Include small material or fabric samples that learners can attach to the moodboard to enhance the tactile dimension.

Set up a welcoming, quiet, and comfortable environment that supports concentration and creativity.


1,5 – 2 hours 


At the end of the activity, facilitators invite learners to reflect on and share the meaning of their moodboard, describing the choices they made in relation to the living style selected during the Trend Research activity.

The moodboard is a visual translation of one’s way of inhabiting space – built through colours, images, materials, and home décor accessories that reflect personal culture, background, and stylistic preferences.

Facilitators are encouraged to create an atmosphere of mutual listening and respect, where learners can express themselves freely and learn from one another. The exchange of different styles, values, and perspectives becomes a powerful resource for imagining living environments that are inclusive, expressive, and attuned to the multiple identities and needs of contemporary life.
