Why WellHome matters -
Portada » Why WellHome matters

The way we design and inhabit our surroundings has a profound impact on our wellbeing. Yet, for many people — particularly those living in vulnerable situations — access to environments that truly support their physical, emotional, and social needs is limited. This is one of the challenges that the WellHome project seeks to address.

Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, this proejct brings together experts in design, education, and social inclusion to develop a training programme that empowers people with special learning needs — primarily due to disability or mental health issues — to develop the skills to create spaces that promote wellbeing. This provides them with new job opportunities beyond traditional roles, enabling meaningful employment in a field that directly benefits others.

The project also focuses on the needs of vulnerable populations living in residences, shared flats, shelters, and similar settings. For these communities, well-designed spaces are not just about comfort — they are essential for rehabilitation, recovery, and social inclusion. WellHome equips learners with the skills to transform these environments, improving wellbeing, dignity, and quality of life.

By combining reflection, creativity, and practical design practice, WellHome aims to ensure that trainees understand how spaces influence emotions and social connections, while organisations supporting vulnerable populations gain tailored tools and approaches to create truly inclusive environments.

In short, WellHome is more than a training project — it is a human-centered approach to design that simultaneously empowers people at risk of social and labour exclusion and enhances the lives of vulnerable communities through the creation of welcoming and healing spaces.
