The USER JOURNEY tool is extremely valuable in space design and renovation processes that involve the active participation of end users, such as families, students, elderly people, caregivers, or other community members.
Through the mapping of flows, the use of colored post-its, worksheets, and scaled floor plans, users are encouraged to express how they experience the space in their everyday life and how they would like it to function in the future. This shared mapping process helps make visible daily habits, points of discomfort, and recurring difficulties, as well as desires and expectations related to the use of space.
This type of engagement:
- Raises awareness of one’s relationship with the environment;
- Encourages reflection on routines, behaviors, and discomforts;
- Highlights implicit or hidden needs that often escape purely technical observation.
By allowing movements, challenges, and needs to be visualized in real time, the tool supports constructive dialogue between designers and users and facilitates the development of shared design proposals that respond to real lifestyles and concrete requirements.
